When I was a kid I used to be scared of butterflies. Actually, I was terrified of moths, but since I was a kid, to me butterflies and moths were like siblings. Yin and yang. Night and day. One would scared me during the day and the other one terrify me at night.
Nowadays I'm still a little bit bugged by moths, but I really like butterflies! Specially the Monarch butterfly. I mean, they look so stunning, it's impossible to ignore them, right? They are truly fascinating, during autumn migration they are able to travel thousand of miles, from Canada and northern USA to Florida and Mexico. Unfortunately, every year the number of monarch butterflies keeps declining.
Did you know that Monarch butterflies' caterpillars only eat milkweed? Without milkweed they cannot survive! After learning more about Monarchs, my husband and I decided we will try to plant some milkweed (only native species, avoid tropical milkweed at any cost, because this spicie might harm the butterflies even more) in our garden. Hopefully together we can help the monarch at least a little bit.
